2010 Winfield Township Meeting
Illinois still has annual township meetings at which normal citizens can show up, propose a law, and pass it, just like the classic town hall meetings of New England. They are often not well attended. This one, on April 12, 2010 was in West Chicago, IL, a town of 28K people. It had about 60 residents in attendance.
Vetrans' Day 2009
This year's Veterans Day program was at the Legion Post 300 - 123 Main St. (entrance off DuPage Bank parking lot) by the flag pole. The program started at 10:30 am and finished a little after 11 with the traditional 21 gun salute. A light luncheon was served was served thereafter. The speaker was former mayor and Post Commander Gene Rennels. The firing squad was from Post 330 and VFW Post 6791. I owed this one to Theresa.

Wayne Matejka Roast
On 29 Aug 2008, the Fire Department of West Chicago had a retirement party for 42 year veteran Wayne Matejka. This video roasts him.

Maryfest 2008
Bilingual Mass at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 at St. Mary’s Church was followed by a festival, including music, dancers, food, games and raffles. Check out the traditional dress of the dancers and musicians at the collage

"The parade was fun for both marchers and watchers. Winner of the Grand Marshal Award for the float best demonstrating the parade’s theme, “The Sky’s the Limit,” was Friends of the West Chicago City Museum. West Chicago Sister Cities won the Turner Award, best depicting the scope of a business or organization. WeGo Youth won the Heritage Award, recognizing the enthusiasm and purpose of youth organization participants." - Burleigh

Trinity Lutheran Church Golf Outing - 30 May 2008
"On May 30, 2008 Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church and School hosted it’s first annual Golf Outing, Dinner and Auction at St. Andrew’s Golf Course and Country Club in West Chicago. Gus Kimball Day
"Designating May 18 2008 as Gus Kimball Day, the mayoral proclamation, read at the May 5 City Council meeting, noted, “Mr. Kimball encouraged the students to do their best, have fun and always demonstrate good sportsmanship because he believed that athletics helped young adults become well-rounded and responsible individuals." - Merle Burleigh

St. Mary’s School's Artists in Residence Day
" “The artists interact so well with the students and it seems to be a good experience for both,” said Gail West-Hooper, volunteer fine arts chair. Saul agreed, “The youth are enthusiastic with the hands-on-experience and we have fun teaching them a little bit about our art.”  With their hands full of artwork created at this event, 7th graders Matt McClure, Marie Santora and Nick Contreras said this art time is one of the best. Santora emphasized, “This is my favorite special thing at school.” Contreras said, “I am not good at art, but I enjoy this. ” McClure added, “It is fun to try out the different types of art.” " - Merle Burleigh
